The great debate in fitness is whether its better to do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Muscle & Fitness touches base on the scientific side of why it may be deemed beneficial to run first thing when trying to lean out/cut up:
If you can stomach getting up earlier, perform cardio before your first meal of the day. Your body is most likely to use fat as the first energy source because your glycogen stores are depleted. If you’re concerned with muscle loss, take 10-20 grams of whey protein before your session, but stay away from carbs.
I personally get the best results when I work out as soon as i wake up. Some people prefer to take in some form of light calories as mentioned above, so go with whichever feels best for you.

I see the science behind the suggestion, but everyone isn’t the same body type, nor do we all process, food in exactly the same way, but I do tend to agree with working out with no carbs in the Morning, especially if one is looking to decrease fat.
I’m no pro, but I usually dont eat anything either for the same reason. Usually when I’m motivated to run anyway, it’s because I’ve been eating like a pig days before. xx
@Xavior – I agree, it is definitely a case by case scenario, some people don’t workout efficiently and effectively on an empty stomach
@Shari- ha! I think thats a common sentiment after over-indulging
